Design/Development
System Administrator
Strands is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator with excellent knowledge and communication skills. You place a high value on secure, highly available, fault-tolerant systems. You enthusiastically work on troubleshooting efforts and work to prevent them.
As a member of our Technical Operations team, you will participate in design decisions and help create the company's core high-volume systems and network infrastructure. Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience with UNIX/Linux administration
- Significant experience with complex networking including architecture and detailed understanding of all levels of OSI stack
- Significant training and experience in computer security practices
- Extensive experience building, supporting, and troubleshooting multi-tier, high-volume, production web installations
- Build system automation design
- Advanced programming skills

MySQL DBA
Strands is seeking a MySQL DBA. This position will be primarily responsible for managing and providing active support for MySQL production/QA/dev environments.
Responsibilities
- Managing MySQL in production/QA/dev environment including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades and schema changes, etc.
- Quickly diagnose server problems and employ preventive measures to maintain high availability servers
- Assistance in database daily operation
- Assistance in developing MySQL tools using PHP/Perl
- Estimating project duration, effort, resource load and cost
- Creating processes to ensure data integrity and identify potential data errors
Requirements
- Proficient in SQL and scripting languages (PHP, Perl)

Software Engineer, Data
Strands is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Data team. The ideal candidate will dream about distributed systems for the parallel processing of massive quantities of data, be familiar with Hadoop/Pig/HBase and MapReduce/Sawzall/Bigtable, and frequently think to themselves.
Responsibilities
- Develop reusable tools for the management and manipulation of hundreds of terabytes of data
- Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of data collection, storage, and retrieval processes
- Interface with other teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa
- Work closely with data analysts to construct creative solutions for their analysis tasks
- Optimize our infrastructure at both the software and hardware level
- Focus on scaling horizontally rather than vertically
