    <title>Shiver By the River</title>
    <location>Reading, PA, USA</location>
<note>TELL ME ABOUT IT: Low key, no frills race that still draws approx. 400 runners per month because of its friendliness, great price, devotion to running in almost any type of weather and dedication to the premise that every post-race spread should include M&amp;Ms. Not to mention the other goodies like, indoor registration, mile markers, time splits at most miles, a wheel measured course, instant results and a wonderful post race buffet of such things as hot soup and bagels. Race series shirts for sale day of race (while they last). See what conditions &quot;other nuts like you&quot; will show up to race &quot;in&quot;. Both races start at same time and place; 10k runners do the loop twice. ROAD OPEN TO TRAFFIC DURING RACE; we control traffic as best we can but can't &quot;close&quot; the road. Most of race faces traffic but pay attention while running.</note>

    <title>Philadelphia 100 Endurance Run</title>
    <location>Philadelphia, PA, USA</location>
    <note>WHEN
Saturday &amp; Sunday, April 3-4, 2010. 6am start on Saturday in front of Lloyd Hall, 36 hour time limit.

WHERE
Schuylkill Loop, Center City Philadelphia. This 8.4 mile partially shaded asphalt/concrete (with grass on the side) multi-use path along the Schuylkill River is flat with only one road crossing but with a few parking lot entrances to cross. The loop is lit by street lights but you may wish to bring a headlamp or flashlight just in case.

HOW MUCH
Free. This is not sanctioned by any governing body nor is it a qualifier for any other race. This is a low key fun run where you will self support. You are only competing against yourself and your goal is to finish. No fee, no aid stations, no frills. Just fun and challenge! T-shirts will be available for purchase if ordered by March 1st; email your RD for details.

HOW MANY
As we'll be just a bunch of runners out for a nice long run together, what does it matter?!? Official results will be posted for everyone who completes 4 loops (33.6 miles) or more up to 12 loops (100.8 miles).</note>

    <title>The Great Urban Race</title>
    <location>Washington, DC, USA</location>
<note>The Great Urban Race is a wacky urban adventure. Teams of two solve twelve clues, have a wild city adventure and complete fun challenges while discovering the city in a fresh way!
OBJECT

to have fun!

to have a city adventure.

to properly complete all the clues first.

CLUES
Each team will be given an envelope that contains twelve or more clues ranging in difficulty at the start of the race.

The clue sheet will contain a mixture of clues &#8211; some physical and some mental.

During the race teams will have the option to skip one clue.

Most races contain one or more Detours, which is a choice between two checkpoints. Choose the one you think will be easier or faster (or more fun).

There may be a clue that is mandatory. Failure to complete a mandatory clue will result in disqualification. Teams will not have the option to skip a mandatory clue.

For every incorrect or incomplete clue, a 30 minute penalty will be added to the team&#8217;s finish time.

Teams will not have the option of returning to properly complete any incomplete or incorrect clue.

TYPES OF CLUES

Physical Challenges: Feed your teammate some tasty food, do something daring, or compete in a game. Mazes, Segways, Tae Kwon Do lessons, bicycle races, holding huge fish, canoeing and many other activities were used during the 2009 season.

Scavenger Clues: Return to the finish line with an item or find a specific vendor.

Puzzles: Think anagrams, word searches, crytograms, and crosswords.

Brain Teasers: Riddles or tests to tease your brain.

Challenges: Interaction with the general public.

HELP!

Phone-a-friend: Some clues will require finding obscure facts. It will be beneficial to have one or more people available to assist you on the Internet.

High-tech: Laptops, GPS', cellular phones, fax machines, Internet-enabled devices, or other devices approved by The Great Urban Race staff are allowed.

TRANSPORTATION

Teams may only travel by foot or public transit. This includes buses, trains, subways, ferries, and trolleys.

Teams may not use any form of private transportation or accept any rides. This includes taxis, private cars, motorcycles, in-line skates, escorts, pedicabs, bicycles, horses, or any other form of private transportation.

FAMILY DIVISION
The Family Division is reserved for families with one racer under the age of 18. Family teams are not required to be blood relatives.

The winning Family Division team will receive a special award at each local race.

The Great Urban Race is difficult to complete and primarily designed for adults, so if there are young participants they may need assistance from an older team member. An eleven-year-old and his father did, however, finish 16th in the 2008 National Championship.

Teams in the Family Division may compete on two, three, or four-person teams.

Should a team in the Family Division finish among the top 25 at a local race, they will qualify for the National Championship, but only two teammates may compete in the National Championship.

RACE RULES

During the race every team MUST:

Obey all local laws, regulations, traffic laws. Participants are solely responsible for their actions and the consequences of those actions during The Great Urban Race.

Wear the official bib number at all times, in such a way that it is clearly visible.

Comply with the directions of The Great Urban Race staff, local authorities and property and/or venue owners and managers.

During the race teams MAY NOT:

Engage in unsportsmanlike or illegal conduct. Verbal or physical aggression towards the public, local officials, other participants, or the Great Urban Race staff, or acts of vandalism, theft, or harassment may result in disqualification from the race, at the discretion of the the Great Urban Race staff.

The Great Urban Race staff reserves the right to disqualify any participant or team for any reason at any time.

A team&#8217;s time will be recorded when the second teammate crosses the finish line.

In the event of physical injury, sickness, accident or any other incident which may bring into question an individual&#8217;s ability to safely complete the race, The Great Urban Race staff may disqualify the team.

If more than one team is present at a challenge location at the same time, the teams will complete the challenge in the order in which they arrived. The Great Urban Race staff reserves the right to delay a team until the previous team has completed the challenge before allowing the next team to begin.

No registration refunds will be given for any reason. </note>

    <title>Delaware Marathon Running Festival</title>
    <location>Wilmington, DE, USA</location>
    <note>*7th Annual
Christiana Care Health System
Delaware Marathon&#8482; Running Festival
Marathon, Half Marathon, 4 Person Team Relay
Sunday, May 16, 2010
Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park
Wilmington, Delaware
Presented by New Balance Delaware*

We have our 2010 date confirmed: Sunday May 16, 2010. Thank You to Christiana Care Health System, New Balance Delaware, the City of Wilmington, and Plexus Fitness / Empowered Yoga who are all returning as sponsors for our 2010 event.

It will be our seventh anniversary in 2010. We have some very special things planned, so please bookmark this website as we announce new partnerships and our plans for Delaware&#8217;s largest, oldest, biggest, and best run marathon.

The marathon will be held at 7:00 a.m. SHARP at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park on the historic Wilmington, Delaware Riverfront. This small waterfront park is located just off Martin Luther King Boulevard in downtown Wilmington at the intersection of South Market Street (Rte 13) and Rosa Parks Drive (Water Street). The park is located between the AMTRAK Station and the Riverfront Market. There is plenty of free parking nearby and easy access to and from Interstate I-95 (Exit 6).

RACE COURSES: You asked for new more scenic courses and you got them!! The marathon course consists of two half marathon loops. Both loops take you from the Wilmington Riverfront through beautiful Brandywine Park, along Kentmere and Bancroft Parkways, through the 40 Acres, Wawaset Park and Little Italy sections of Wilmington and returns via the park system and Rodney Square. The four person relay course consists of four loops of 6.55 miles each starting at the Riverfront and running on the marathon / half marathon course before turning around near Lovering Ave at Kentmere Parkway.

Runners may register for the full 26.2 mile marathon, a 13.1 mile half marathon, or the four person relay marathon. The race course will be open for six hours - after which our agreement with the City of Wilmington requires the roads be reopened to traffic. All back of the pack runners (and walkers) will be asked to start 45 minutes early (6 am) to allow them to finish the race and receive their official finishing time.

As in past years, this is a non-profit event. In 2010, proceeds from the event will go to at least four local charities: The Center for Heart and Vascular Health at Christiana Care; the YMCA of Delaware's Strong Kids Campaign; Wellness Community Delaware, and Team in Training Delaware.</note>

    <title>Stumpy's Marathon</title>
    <location>Newark, DE, USA</location>
    <note>Stumpy's Marathon
a 26.2 mile run for pack supremacy
7AM Sunday, September 6, 2009
Newark, DE

You CAN teach old dawgs new tricks, but you can&#8217;t stop them from marking their territory. So once again, Stumpy is hosting his patented leg-lifting, tree-sniffing tail-thumping, knee-humping TrailDawgs marathon.

The &quot;course&quot; (if you want to call it that) is an interesting jaunt that is guaranteed to be at least 26.2 miles, and will not exceed 28 or maybe 35 miles. It will be vaguely the same as last year's, spanning 3 parks and 2 states, including gently undulating hills, at least one creek crossing, educational historic markers, single track trail, dirt/gravel roads, and a few level stretches where you can open up that dawgie stride. For those who like to run pavement, the trail crosses a few actual roads.

In the past a few runners have mentioned minor inconveniences such as losing their shoes in the sucking mud; getting stung by swarms of insane hornets, wasps and/or yellowjackets; getting chased by staggering froth-at-the-mouth rodents; and finding fully-engorged ticks on their private parts at the end of the day. We were hoping the state parks people would address these inconveniences, but of course the General Assembly couldn't allocate the money for it because hell, they didn't want to increase cigarette or liquor taxes to pay for it. So the best we can suggest is that you picture yourself in a happy place with bright, breezy meadows and groomed gravel pathways with pretty wood bridges, and we'll explain how to rid yourself of the chiggers, ticks and other appended fauna if, uh when you finish.

Race amenities include: a scenic racecourse with many barely-visible directional markings, a place to start, and a clearly defined finish where you can record your finish time. All finishers will receive a handshake and maybe a signed certificate of completion from Stumpy himself or some other crummy keepsake. Numerous water stations have been designated, and we hope to actually have water at some of them. However, you should carry at least 20+ oz. of your preferred beverage in a refillable container, since the maximum distance between water stations may range anywhere from 5 to 26.2 miles. In prior years we had a trained masseuse giving free post-race massages, and she may be at the finish again this year. (Whatever he tells you, do NOT let Stumpy try to give you a massage!) No race amenities are guaranteed, but you will get more than you bargain for.

Our motto is, &#8220;It&#8217;s not a trail race if nobody gets lost.&#8221; You enter this race at your own risk, and are solely responsible for your own welfare and safety at ALL times. Don&#8217;t blame any race volunteer or organizer if you wander off trail, can&#8217;t find a porta-potty in time, run into trees, trip over rocks or roots, fall down, get bitten by God knows what, get run over crossing a road, drown in the creek, or otherwise injure your body or self esteem. The race course may include: dirt, bugs, water, dirty bugs, dirty water, mud, rocks, roots, fallen trees, muddy squirrels, dirty snakes, the toothless guys from Deliverance suggesting you make a noise like a piggie, and other low-down nasty stuff. </note>

Valerie's life with us gave strength and her legacy is viral. She was the glue who tied family, friends and neighbors together. A dreaded disease called Leukemia took her away from us too early and much too quickly in a life that should be commended for quality, humanity, and loyalty.

While health was given to her as smart, well educated, strong willed and a considerate person, it also interrupted this much loved life because of Leukemia.

The meaning of the name Valerie is health and it will show that mind and spirit creates the strength. Valerie's strength will show us that love, faith and trust will go on as long as we pay it forward.

Let us come together and do something to end this disease called Leukemia that took away a wonderful life named Valerie.</note>

    <title>The Kelly Golat Memorial Run</title>
    <location>East Stroudsburg, PA, USA</location>
<note>The Kelly Golat Memorial Run was created in 2003 and is now in its 8th year. We'd like to thank all the runners &amp; volunteers that have made these events a success. Together we have raised over $115K for melanoma research &amp; organized an annual scholarship in the name of Kelly Golat at Notre Dame High School.

Kelly was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 23 - malignant melanoma. She fought for 18 months and, at the age of 24, passed away from this deadly disease. She was an avid runner, writer, traveler, and a huge Neil Diamond fan! Kelly was a daughter, a sister, a friend, and most importantly a source of inspiration to everyone she met.

Having been an avid runner herself, Kelly had discussed the possibility of organizing a run to raise money for melanoma research. Kelly was not with us to see this dream come true, but her family and friends continue to help her dream remain a reality.

The run is scheduled annually for the first Saturday in October. This year, the run will take place Saturday, October 2. Please spread the word and come out to join us for a great day.</note>

    <title>The Baltimore Running Festival</title>
    <location>Baltimore, MD, USA</location>
    <note>The Under Armour Baltimore Marathon

Last year&#8217;s course brought positive responses from the running community. The fair yet challenging course travels through the many diverse neighborhoods including the scenic Inner Harbor waterfront area, historic Federal Hill and charming Fells Point. The loop around Lake Montebello will also remain giving runners flat terrain near mile 21.

The half-marathon will again start at the 13-mile mark of the marathon course, but as it has done in the past, it will split after 2/10 mile (half-marathoners will have their own lane to that point) and will rejoin the marathon route later in the race. The separation between the marathon and half-marathon courses alleviates much of the congestion at the merge point and make for a smoother transition. ALSO, marathon participants will wear a &quot;FULL&quot; bib and team relay participants will wear a &quot;R&quot; bib on their backs to distinguish them from the half-marathon participants.

Date: Saturday, October 16, 2010

Race Start: 8:00 AM

Start Line: Russell and Camden Streets

Race Limit: 5,000

Amenities: Runners participating in the Under Armour Baltimore Marathon will receive the following:

Under Armour performance shirt, and post-race food &amp; beverage. A certificate of completion and a medal will be given to all finishers.

Course Amenities include: baggage check at M&amp;T Bank Stadium, plenty of free parking, mileage sign at each mile, 15 fluid stations on the course (water and Gatorade), fruit, pretzels, potato chips, energy gel and nutrition bars (2 locations on course), toilets at start/finish and various points on the course.</note>

<title>First Night State College Resolution Run 5k</title>
    <location>State College, PA, USA</location>
    <note>First Night&#174; State College
Resolution Run 5K

The First Night Resolution Run 5K was first run on New Year's Eve, 1997. About 130 hearty souls showed up on a frigid, windy night for the race through downtown State College and the Penn State Campus. Since then, the race has grown every year and has become a much anticipated part of the First Night&#174; State College festivities as well as the capper for the local running calendar. Like the Boalsburg Memorial Day Race, the First Night 5K is a &quot;fun run&quot; attracting first time racers, families, kids, out-of-town Christmas visitors, costumed runners (there's a prize for the best costume!), as well as serious competitors. The course is fast, with a relatively mild (by State College standards) hill in the first half-mile, an even milder one in the second mile, and a long downhill to the finish. About 500 runners have taken part in recent years' Resolution Runs, and the race keeps on growing!
The Resolution Run 5K is part of the First Night&#174; State College festivities. First Night&#174; State College is three days of winter fun, including music, crafts, ice sculptures, indoor and outdoor performances and activities, and a Grand Procession through downtown State College. For more information on First Night, visit the First Night&#174; State College web site.</note>
